VERMILLION, S.D. (April 8, 2023) - The Buena Vista men's outdoor track & field team continued its spring schedule by taking part in the University of South Dakota Early Bird Meet on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday,
David Crow,
Abraham Christensen,
Ethan Turner and
Cam Spina each set season-bests in the hammer throw. Crow and Christiansen also added season-best heaves in the shot put.
Jon Flaws and
Kaden Sadler each ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Flaws edging out Sadler for ninth place overall in 10:00.95.
Jadon Micke ran 51.08 in the 400-meter dash on Saturday and was 18th overall among the 84-member field and just one second out of the top-10.
Ashton Bates ran a season-best time of 11.08s during the 100-meter dash and placed 49th overall but was less than one second back of the winning time. Micke was just behind at 11.19. That blazing duo sat at 43rd and 44th, respectively, separated by only 0.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Micke reached first at 24.42 seconds followed by Bates at 22.44 and they sat just 1.2 seconds off the winning time.
Easton Hays led the way in the long jump with a season-best leap of 20-1.5. Crow with a monster personal best in the discus at 131-8, going past his previous best from last season at 129-3.
The Beavers are scheduled to return to action on April 15 at the Cornell College Invite in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
