Beavers Roll to 110-60 Home Victory over Faith Baptist

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Dec. 12, 2023) - The Buena Vista University men's basketball team stepped out of conference play on Tuesday evening to host Faith Baptist Bible College in the final home contest of the calendar year, and the Beavers would roll to a 110-60 victory over the Eagles inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

Freshman Carter Sievers led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. He connected on a career-best four three-point buckets, dished out four assists and added three steals. Senior Zane Neubaum followed with 20 points, including 17 in the first-half, to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Kyle Sternberg also had a career night with 11 points and five boards while senior Gunner Reed also reached double-digits for the eighth time this season with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Eagles dropped in a three-pointer in the opening seconds and led for the first seven minutes of the game until a made jumper from Sievers put BVU on top for the first time at 13-12. BVU never trailed again and used a big 28-5 run that covered seven minutes and led 39-17 with 6:55 left in the opening half.

BVU led by as much as 26 late in the half before a late three-point bucket by Faith Baptist made it 54-31 Beavers at the break. The Eagles finished 6-of-17 from downtown in the opening half but would cool off to only 2-of-9 in the second. BVU, meanwhile, sizzled at 60 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes, making 21-of-35 overall and 8-of-19 from distance.

That efficiency carried over for much of the second half for Buena Vista, as the team added seven more made three-point treys and shot 51.6 percent from the field overall in the half.

A total of 14 different players scored at least two points for the Beavers with eight of those posting at least six. The 110 points scored is the team's second-highest output this season.

Jared Pearson scored 11 points and snagged eight rebounds to help lead the Eagles (3-4) as Desmond Conway followed with 10 points.

Buena Vista improves to 7-3 on the season and is off until heading out west to California over the weekend where it will play at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday, Dec. 17 and then at Caltech on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
