Women's Tennis Picks up First Win after 5-4 Triumph at Dubuque

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DUBUQUE, Iowa (Oct. 7, 2023) - The Buena Vista women's tennis team was on the road Saturday for a pair of American Rivers Conference matches, and came away with its first win of the season after edging the University of Dubuque, 5-4. The Beavers dropped a 9-0 decision at Loras College to close out the trip.

Against the Spartans, BVU fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, despite getting a strong 8-3 victory at No. 3 from the duo of Lily Gust and Abigail King.

The Beavers took four of the five singles matches, including a pair of three-set tiebreakers to claim victory. Nancy Flores was one of the two individuals to come through in thrilling fashion, holding off Amelia Court in a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) match at No. 3. King came through in the No. 6 match with a thrilling three-set outing of her own. She dropped her first set, 6-4, and then bounced back with 6-3 and 6-2 triumphs. Gust also went 2-0 against the Spartans with a straight set, 6-4, 6-4, triumph, while Jenny Almanza did the same at No. 5 by winning 6-3, 6-3.

Buena Vista is now 1-9 on the year and will close out the fall schedule at the A-R-C Individual Tournament which takes place on Oct. 13 and 14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
