LINCOLN, Neb. (Jan. 25, 2023) -
Lindsey Anhalt and
McKenna Cone each scored 13 points to help lead the Buena Vista women's basketball team at Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday night, but the Prairie Wolves closed the game on an 11-0 run and held off the Beavers, 73-65.
BVU led 65-62 after a layup from
Sidney Reimer with 4:35 remaining but then was held scoreless the rest of the way. The Prairie Wolves got the lead back at 67-65 with one of their nine three-point makes in the contest and then made six straight free throws over the final minute to pull away.
Anhalt finished 4-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line while grabbing five rebounds. Cone was 5-of-11 shooting and made 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Danika Demers just missed out on double figures with nine points while chipping in with five board and five steals.
Addison Weber came off the bench and scored five points and hauled in a team-leading six rebounds.
The Beavers shot 43 percent from the field and had another strong night at the free-throw line by making 17-of-20.
NWU (6-12, 2-8 A-R-C) caught fire from long distance in the second half, making 6-of-10 attempts to finish 9-for-22 overall. The Beavers, meanwhile, were 4-of-18, including 3-of-14 over the final 20 minutes.
Brianna Denton and Ellie Bream each turned in 18 points to help lead the Prairie Wolves as four players scored in double figures.
Buena Vista is now 6-12 on the year (1-9 A-R-C) and travels to Luther College (11-8, 6-4 A-R-C) on Jan. 28 for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
