STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 2, 2022) - The Buena Vista University men's cross country team is on the course tonight (Sept. 2) to begin its 2022 season by competing at the Augustana Twilight, hosted by Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D. The 4-mile run is scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m.
The Beavers are coming off a 2021 campaign that saw them finish eighth at the American Rivers Conference Championships but would then finish the season strong with a 13
th place finish among 30 teams at the NCAA Regional Meet.
This year's team has a solid mix of veteran leadership and experience, as well as a strong nucleus of newcomers, on its roster. Seniors
Jon Flaws,
Colin Imhoff and
Drew Marksbury, along with junior
Kyle Miller, will help anchor the team out of the gate. Miller brought home the top individual finish from last year's A-R-C Championships (46
th overall; 26:55).
Second-year head coach
Chris Orlow has replaced his three graduating seniors with a solid incoming class that will give the team more added depth. A total of eight first-year members are added to the roster this season and will provide a great deal of competition among the group.
"We did lose three quality runners to graduation after last season, but we have a strong group of returners that are poised to have strong seasons this year," says Orlow. "Our newcomers keep working hard each and every day, and I believe this team has the potential for a top-6 finish at conference this fall."
BVU, which has not landed a top-6 conference finish since 2006, will take part in four competitions leading up to the A-R-C Championships on October 29 in Indianola, hosted by Simpson College.
