DUBUQUE, Iowa (Dec 3, 2022) - Junior
Hannah Whitver matched a career-high with 11 points and grabbed a season-high six rebounds to help lead the Buena Vista women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, but the Beavers fell on the road to Loras College, 74-52.
Whitver was 4-of-9 from the field and made two of the team's season-high eight three-point buckets. Sophomore
McKenna Cone added nine points while
Danika Demers chimed in with seven points and a team-leading seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Kayley Dresback was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and turned in eight points whileÂ
Lindsey Anhalt matched Demers on the boards with seven.
BVU was held to just one made field goal in the first quarter (1-of-11) and trailed 29-5 heading to the second. The Beavers, however, bounced back by making 9-of-13 attempts from the field over the next 10 minutes and outscored the Duhawks 20-15. It was an evenly-matched game throughout the second half, but BVU was unable to string together enough of a run despite shooting 40 percent from the field in the third and holding the Duhawks to under that mark in both quarters.
Loras held a 24-5 margin on points off turnovers in the contest while BVU held a 36-33 advantage on the glass.
Madison Fleckenstein scored a game-high 14 points to lead Loras (5-1, 3-0 A-R-C) as Hannah Thiele was right behind with 13.
Buena Vista is now 4-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Beavers continue league play on December 7 as they host Nebraska Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.
