Women's Basketball Drops A-R-C Opener at Dubuque 82-63

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Nov. 30, 2022) - The Buena Vista women's basketball team fell behind by 13 points after the first quarter and was unable to recover from there as the Beavers dropped their American Rivers Conference opener at Dubuque on Wednesday night, 82-63, inside of the Stoltz Center.

BVU opened the game shooting 3-of-14 from the field over the first 10 minutes and trailed 21-8 heading to the second. Dubuque (4-4, 1-1 A-R-C) had the range from long distance going in the first half, outscoring the Beavers by 15 from long range to lead 53-29 at the half. Despite shooting 22-of-41 over the final three quarters and outscoring the Spartans 21-6 in the fourth, the deficit was too much to overcome in the end. Dubuque built its largest lead of the game at 36 points to start the fourth quarter before being held to just four points the rest of the period.

The Beavers finished the game shooting 45.5 percent from the field, despite making just 4-of-17 attempts from downtown. The team didn't help their cause at the free-throw line by connecting on only 9-of-21.

McKenna Cone scored 11 points and Vanessa Hamlett 10 to lead the way while Lindsey Anhalt, Emily Newton and Maddie Hilgendorf each added eight. Hilgendorf also hauled in a team-leading six rebounds.

Tabria Thomas scored a game-high 29 points to pace the home team with Isabella Tierney right behind with 20. Thomas also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists.

Buena Vista drops to 4-4 overall (1-1 A-R-C) and will be back in Dubuque on Saturday afternoon, December 3, to play at Loras College with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
