LAST WEEK: The Beavers were on the road and suffered a tough 65-0 loss at Loras College. Turnovers plagued the team as it couldn't overcome a season-high six miscues in the contest. The Duhawks broke through with a pair of touchdowns over the final three minutes of the first quarter before the turnovers mounted for BVU in the second as Loras built a 44-0 halftime advantage. The Beavers were held to an average of 3.4 yards per play on offense and 303 yards overall.
About Central - The Dutch, who were the preseason pick to repeat as A-R-C champions, look to bounce back this week following a tough 35-28 home loss against No. 22 Wartburg last weekend. The Knights scored the eventual game-winning touchdown with just 21 seconds left after Central had rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 28-28 with 2:04 remaining. The Dutch began conference play with a heartbreaking 38-35 home loss to Loras as the Duhawks nailed a 37-yard field goal with one second on the clock. Despite the two narrowing losses, the Dutch still rank second in the league and 29th in DIII in scoring at over 39.0ppg. Through its first three A-R-C games, Central is among the top passing teams in the league at 336.0ypg and is averaging 480.0ypg of total offense. Defensively, the Dutch are allowing 380.0 total yards per outing. The team has four individuals ranked in the top-10 in total tackles per game, led by Nate Rahn, who's fourth at 8.7 per game.
About Buena Vista: The Beavers have dropped back-to-back games following their thrilling road win at Luther on September 24. The team has also been held scoreless over its last seven quarters since building a 16-12 first quarter advantage over the University of Dubuque on Homecoming two weeks ago. BVU was held to only 40 yards rushing by Loras last Saturday and couldn't overcome six turnovers. The Beavers are eighth in the A-R-C, averaging 17.8ppg during league play. Mason Griffith has taken over as the starting running back the last two weeks and is 10th in the league averaging over 55.0ypg on the ground. He turned in a career-high 122 against Dubuque two weeks ago. Zach Herrera's 141 passing attempts over the last four games are second-most in the league with his 71 completions sitting fourth. Defensively, Jeremy Woodward has moved up to seventh in the A-R-C during conference play in tackles per game at 8.0. He's led the team in that category the last two weeks and has overtaken the team lead for the year at 39.0. Brandon Lance and RJ Rojas each have a team-leading 5.0 tackles for a loss. As a team, BVU has just five sacks on the year.
UP NEXT - Buena Vista is back on the road next week at Nebraska Wesleyan University with a late afternoon kickoff at 4:30 p.m.
