INDIANOLA, Iowa (January 5, 2022) - The Buena Vista women's basketball had the tough task of tipping-off 2022 on the road at No. 6 Simpson on Wednesday night and after keeping close throughout most of the first half, the Beavers fell victim of a 13-0 run to close out the opening stanza by the Storm en route to an 86-38 road loss inside of Cowles Fieldhouse.
Lindsey Anhlat led BVU with 10 points and four steals with
Taylor Krager right behind with eight points and six boards. Krager also made both three-point buckets for the Beavers in the contest as the team finished 2-of-13.Â
Vanessa Hamlett was held to just four points but did haul in a game-leading nine rebounds.
Simpson held a 21-19 lead after the first quarter and pulled away from a 31-26 game in the final minutes of the second, holding BVU to just 2-of-16 shooting in the quarter and just seven points as the Storm built a 44-26 halftime cushion. The third quarter was Simpson's highest of the night as the Storm tallied 30 points while holding the Beavers to only 12 second half points. BVU was also plagued by 35 turnovers.
The Beavers finished 14-of-55 overall from the field (25.5 percent) while the Storm closed at 42.5 percent.
Jenna Taylor led all scorers with 19 points for Simpson which improves to 12-1 overall (4-0 A-R-C). The Beavers drop to 4-7 overall (2-3 A-R-C).
Buena Vista returns home on Saturday, January 8, to host Coe College at 2:00 p.m.
