DES MOINES, Ia The road was unkind to the BVU women's tennis team Tuesday as they dropped a non-conference match against Grandview 2-5. After a two week break from tennis, Senior
Nicole Lange, picked up a great win against Sofia Ordinteva in three sets, 6-1, 6-7, 11-9.
The second win also came in singles, when
Susi Phung, at the number 5 spot, went to three thrilling sets as well, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. Coach Taylor was pleased with the team's effort in the tie-breaks, "in singles everyone competed hard and both Nicole and Susi came away with great wins in match tiebreaks. We've been playing a lot of tiebreakers in practice, so it's nice to see that work pay off in competition." Taylor also commented about his competition to start the season, and how that should help the Beavers down the road, "We've had some tough competition these first three matches so far, so hopefully that has done well to prepare us for our first conference match on Friday against Simpson."
The team was unable to pick up any wins in doubles, despite keeping the matches close til the end. Lange and
Alexis McGinnis dropped just one service game and fell at Number 1 doubles 5-7.
Lexie Bruns and
Gabby Kardell dropped their number 2 doubles match 3-6 against Grandview. "I thought the team played strong doubles; even though we didn't come out on top in any of the 3 matchups they were all competitive sets, really coming down to a point or two here or there, especially since we were playing in the no-ad scoring format," Taylor continued.
Following the loss to Grandview, the Beavers record moves to 0-2 overall as they head towards their first American Rivers Conference match this Friday at 4pm in Indianola against Simpson College.
