STORM LAKE, IA    Back on the home courts, the Buena Vista University women's tennis team was greeted with a tough ARC opponent, and dropped the match 0-9.  Coe college has traditionally been a tough team, and Coach Taylor saw that again after the loss, "Coe is a very solid team and a really great program historically. Coach Strydum has really done a nice job developing the program and getting it back to the high level of play they are used to."

Despite what looked like a lopsided loss, Taylor was extremely happy with the team's performance, "At #1 doubles Lexie and Gabby played some of the best tennis they have all season. The 8-1 score doesn't fully represent the quality of the set and how competitive a lot of the games and points were."  Lexie Bruns and Gabby Kardell played #1 doubles, while Susi Phung and Nicole Lange played #2, dropping their match 2-8.  Freshman Madison McGaffin and Abby King combined for the #3 spot falling 1-8 as well.

Lange held on to her #1 singles spot, but ran in to a solid player from Coe, falling in straight sets.  "Nicole did not play bad at all, her opponent is just solid in about every aspect of the game and hardly made any unforced errors the entire match," Coach Taylor said.  Susi Phung battled the toughest on the day at #3 singles, going 5-7 in the first set, before falling in the second as well for the straight set loss.  Because of a nagging knee injury, Kardell was unable to compete in singles, and the Beavers would fall in the next 3 spots as well, handing the Co-Hawks the 9-0 victory.   "We were also not at 100% missing our #2 player Alexis today, as well as a few of them still coming back from some physical issues. But hopefully they will all be closer to 100% after the weekend so we can gear up for Central on Wednesday next week," Taylor continued.

The Beavers next home game will be with the Dutch Wednesday September 22 at 4pm.
