STORM LAKE, Iowa (July 23, 2021) - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2020-21 All-Academic Track & Field Teams on Thursday which includes both Buena Vista University teams and multiple individuals.

On the women's side, the Beavers were selected with a cumulative team GPA of 3.289.  They were among seven American Rivers Conference programs to be honored for the work inside of the classroom.

To be eligible, a team must have a cumulative team GPA (not 2020-21 academic year, not semester) of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility of at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter.  One must also be ranked in the top 50 of his/her event during the indoor season or qualify for the outdoor national championshps.

In addition to the team being recognized, BVU also had a pair of individuals land All-Academic honors.  Overall, there were more than 650 women named to the team.  To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale through the most recently completed grading period.

Among those listed on this year's team include, BVU juniors Becca Simpson and Tabitha Guyett.  Simpson, who's on the team for the second straight season, is an elementary education major while Guyett, who's a first-time selection, is a biomedical science and psychology major.

On the men's side, BVU was also among the team's to be named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA while junior Garrett Bates was also listed among the more than 450 student-athletes that earned individual recognition.  Bates, who earned recognition for the first time in his career, is a biology and secondary education major.
