STORM LAKE, Iowa (May 12, 2021) - The Buena Vista University men's outdoor track & field team has its eyes set on a strong performance during this weekend's American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships that gets underway this weekend at Chalmers Field and Miller Track on the campus of the University of Dubuque.
The championships officially get underway on Thursday afternoon, May 13, with the first five events of the decathlon at 1:00 p.m. Field events and running events will begin on Friday, May 14, starting at 1:00 p.m.
CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM
The Beavers will enter the championships with 11 events currently ranked in the top-10 of the A-R-C Performance List. The top-8 finishers score team points throughout the championships while the top-3 place winners will earn all-conference status.
Senior
Lane Jellison holds three of those top-10 marks. He enters as the top-ranked individual in the discus at 47.60m and is fifth in both the shot put (14.02m) and hammer throw (49.18m). He's also 10th in the javelin with his best heave of 45.50m coming during the Sioux City Relays. Jellison finished fifth in the shot put at this year's indoor championships.
Garrett Bates and Joe Fisher have been consistent for BVU all season in the pole vault. The duo will look to claim all-conference accolades as each enters the championships ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the league with marks of 4.41m and 4.20m. Fisher just missed out on all-conference honors at this year's indoor championships by having to settle for fourth due to tiebreaker criteria.
Jadon Micke is among the conference leaders in the 200-meter dash. He comes in ranked fourth in the league with a time of 21.92 that he set just two weeks ago at the Mustang Invitational. He's also 10th in the 400-meter dash after posting a time of 49.89 during last Friday's South Dakota Tune-Up race. Sophomore
Spencer Hunt (9th) also comes in ranked inside the top-10 in the 100-meter dash.
Riley Flint is also ninth in the 400-meter hurdles.
BVU comes in ranked sixth in the 4x100 meter relay and eighth in the 4x400.
Max Powers is just outside of the top-10 in the decathlon.
