WAVERLY, Iowa (April 2, 2021) - Senior Ryan Ruzek carded an opening round 78 and sits tied for ninth overall to help lead the Buena Vista University men's golf team that is ninth out of 15 teams after 18 holes of the Wartburg Spring Invite that began Friday at Prairie Links Golf Course.

Ruzek is one shot out of the top-five and seven shots off the individual lead heading into Saturday's final round.  Fellow senior Anthony Gallagher turned in an 83 and is tied for 41st with Joe Ashley right behind in 43rd after his 84.  Izaak Sander (85) and Shane Hess (86) rounded out the line-up as the Beavers finished with a 332 and are seven strokes back of the host Knights.  

Nebraska Wesleyan is the clubhouse leader by eight shots over Kirkwood Community College.  The Priaire Wolves' Alex Kubik is the individual clubhouse leader after his even-par, opening round 71.  

Saturday's 18 holes are scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
