DUBUQUE, Iowa (March 26, 2021) - The Buena Vista baseball team will take the field as it is set to take on the Loras College in Dubuque on Friday afternoon. This will be the second conference double header of the season for the Beavers, who look to hand the Duhawks their first conference setback.

Saturday marks the 98th meeting all-time between the two programs with the series being led by the Beavers by an impressive 57-39-1 record overall...The series dates back to the 1939 campaign where Buena Vista picked up a 3-1 win in the inaugural match-up...BVU has won 7 of the last 11 contests. BVU's last win over the Duhawks was an 8-5 triumph in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2018.

LAST TIME OUT 
The Beavers won 3 of 4 games in Storm Lake against Simpson College last weekend. In the series finale, the Storm won the contest 9-2.?The Beavers were held scoreless until the ninth inning when they finally picked up a couple runs. The Storm scored 7 runs in the first four innings to seal the final game of the series. Senior Tyler Tennyson continued his monster weekend at the plate by going 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.  Fellow senior Parker Truesdell also added four hits, including a pair of doubles, while driving in three and scoring twice.  Sophomore Jordan Mathewson added three hits from the leadoff spot and scored two runs, Calvin Harris had two hits and three RBI and Logan Mueller also chipped in with two hits and a pair of runs scored.  BVU won the first three games of the series, 6-3, 15-14 and 13-7. 

 
ABOUT BUENA VISTA 
BVU will play its second conference series of the season.?Through the first nine games of the regular season, the team has a .325 BA. A bright spot for the Beavers is the 66 runs batted in on 99 hits as a team. The pitching staff has allowed a .298 BA while posting a 6.87 ERA. Senior Tyler Tennyson is leading the charge with a .429 BA with 2 doubles and 2 home runs to his name as well. Harris is right behind with a .417 average, with a pair of extra-base knocks.  Overall, the Beavers have four players coming in hitting better than .4000.  Tennyson has been dominant in his 3 appearances on the mound thus far as well. In 16 IP, he has recorded 16 strikeouts to just 1 BB and 6 ER.   Dalton Glenn also has a pair of pitching victories over his three outings.  As a staff, BVU has record 63 strikeouts to 41 walks, despite teams hitting .298.

 
ABOUT THE DUHAWKS
Loras is off to a hot start in 2021 after sweeping a four-game road series at Nebraska Wesleyan last weekend.  After squeaking out a 6-5 win in the opener, the Duhawks won each of the last three games by at least nine runs.  The team comes in as the top hitting squad in the A-R-C with a .349 average and 81 runs scored through eight games.  Its also tied for the conference lead in home runs (9) while also leading the way in slugging percentage (.534).  It's also limiting the runs scored thanks in part to only six errors made.  Four players currently sit in the top-10 of the conference in batting average, led by Nick DiBenedetto (.467) who's second.  Luke Fennelly is hitting .452 and is tied for fourth with 14 hits.  His seven doubles and four home runs also lead the league.  Marshall Rice has started a pair of games in the early going and is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA over 10 innings of work.  Erik Edminster has worked a team-leading 15.1 innings and is 2-1 overall with a 5.74 ERA.  As a staff, the control has been phenomenal with 63 strikeouts against only 19 free passes.  Opponents are currently hitting .269
