STORM LAKE, Iowa (January 10, 2020) - The Buena Vista University wrestling team was back out on the mat Friday afternoon for the first time in nearly a month, and the Beavers chalked up bonus points in each of their five individual victories over visiting Saint John's University (Minn.) to pick up a 28-20 win and even their season record at 3-3.

The Johnnies won five of the nine overall matches wrestled, but the Beavers did get the aid of a forfeit at 125 pounds which proved to be big in the end.

Saint John's posted consecutive marjor decisions to take an 8-6 lead after three weights before Collin Stilson (149lbs) gave BVU the lead back for good with a big pin with just under a minute left in the opening period.  He's now a team-best 17-7 on the year.  Following an 8-2 decision by SJU at 157 pounds, Parker Preul (165lbs), Floyd Miller (174lbs) and Diego Escarcega (184lbs) then posted consecutive bonus-point wins to all but secure the win.  Preul was in command after the first period and then wasted little time to begin the second, notching his fifth fall of the year just 22 seconds into the second period.  Miller kept the momentum going by cruising to a 14-3 major decision to make it 22-11, while Escarcega came through with a clutch hip-toss to pin his opponent in 3:33.

The Johnnies (1-3) came from behind for an 8-7 decision at 197 pounds before posting a fall at 285 to close out the match.

Buena Vista was scheduled to travel to Pella, Iowa, on Saturday to take part in the annual Under Armour Invitational, hosted by Central College, but due to an approaching winter storm, the team will not make the trip down.  It will now be off until traveling to Mount Vernon, Iowa, on January 18, to take part in the annual Mike Duroe Tournament, hosted by Cornell College.
