ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (November 16, 2019) -
Erin Streit and Desitny Einerwold each scored 12 points and Buena Vista outscored Saint Benedict in both the first and fourth quarters, but the Bennies scored a combined 46 points in the second and third periods to hand the Beavers a 77-54 loss on Saturday to wrap up the Saint Benedict Tournament.
Streit and Einerwold were a combined 7-of-17 from the field and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe.Â
Jennifer Schneider followed with nine points and five rebounds while
Vanessa Hamlett finished with five points and pulled down a team-high six boards. As a team, the Beavers shot 34 percent from the field but were held to 2-of-14 from beyond the arc. It scored nearly half of its point at the free-throw line, making 22-of-27 attempts.
CSB led by seven midway thru the opening period at 13-6 before a three-pointer by Streit helped spark a 9-0 BVU run which eventually gave the Beavers a 15-14 lead heading to the second. The Beavers just couldn't keep that momentum going heading into the second stanza as they scored just two points over the first 8:30 of the quarter and fell behind 30-17 as the Bennies led 33-23 at the break.
The Beavers were still within 13 points midway through the third until CSB went on a 15-4 run to close out the period and lead 60-36. The Bennies led by as many as 28 in the fourth as BVU couldn't get any closer than 20.
Einerwold was named to the All-Tournament after the game.
Saint Benedict improves to 3-1 on the season while the Beavers fall to 0-2. The team will go after its first win when it travels to Papillion, Neb., on November 19 and play Nebraska Christian College at 6 p.m.
