STORM LAKE, Iowa (November 14, 2019) - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) have will each have a pair of teams represented inside of Siebens Fieldhouse this weekend to play against each other as part of the SLIAC/A-R-C Challenge. Simpson College and Fontbonne will play Friday's opener at 6 p.m. followed by Buena Vista and Westminster (Mo.) at 8 p.m.

About Simpson
The Storm are gearing up for playing a game in three straight days as it will host Faith Baptist Bible College before arriving on campus to play Fontbonne (Nov. 15) and Westminster (Nov. 16) as part of the A-R-C/SLIAC Challenge. The team dropped a 106-102 road contest at Bethany Lutheran last Friday night in the season opener. Conor Riordan turned in a team-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds to help lead the team which had four players score in double figures. Adam Reiter had 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Kyle Wagner chipped in with 17 points and six boards. All three were all-conference performers a seaon ago. As a team, Simpson shot nearly 48 percent from the field and was 6-of-14 from long range while doing alot of work at the charity stipe by making 30-of-34 attempts. The Storm were picked to finish second in the A-R-C this season after going 16-10, 9-7 A-R-C a year ago.
About Fontbonne
The Griffins opened the season with a 71-65 loss at St. Louis Pharmacy on Wednesday night. Caden Clark had a strong all-around night by scoring a team-high 14 points, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out three assists and recording a pair of steals. Jared Woodcock, Gus Kleekamp and Cody McKinney all followed with 11 points with Kleekamp also adding seven boards and a team-leading six assists. Overall, the Griffins shot 37.5 percent from the field and were just 5-of-19 from downtown and 6-of-16 at the charity stripe. The team is coming off a 10-15 campaign a year ago, which marked its highest win total since 2014-15 (13-14).
About Westminster
The Bluejays dropped a 93-91 contest in their season opener on November 11 against Central Christian (Mo.) despite leading by eight at the half. They had three starters score in double figures, led by transfer Jaxon Althaus's 22 points. Landon Harrison, who also transferred in, was right behind with 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists. It was a strong shooting night overall as the team made 10-of-28 three-point attempts and was 49 percent from the field overall. The Bluejays were 10-15 overall last season after dropping their final five games of the season. Junior Steven Brandt is the team's leading returning scorer coming into the season after averaging 5.7ppg while playing in all 25 games.
About Buena Vista
The Beavers are going after its first 3-0 start since the 2008-09 season when it begins their home schedule against Westminster on Friday night. It will also be the home coaching debut for first-year head coach
Trevor Johnson. The team picked up a 96-73 road win at Gustavus Adolphus on November 8 before rolling to a 93-76 triumph at Bethany Lutheran on Novmber 12. Through those two games, the team is 29-of-69 from long range (.420) and shooting 47 percent from the field overall. The defense has also picked itself up a notch in the early going by out-rebounding each of its first two opponents by an average margin of 9.0 per game and forcing an average of 20.0 turnovers.
Timothy Jeffries is averaging 23.0ppg and shooting 62.5 percent from the field. Junior
Michael Demers is 7-of-17 from downtown (.412) and averaging 16.5ppg while
DJ McNeal and
Dominic Sesma are also scoring over 12.0ppg. Junior
Lincoln Rock is grabbing 7.5 rebounds with Jeffries at 7.0. The Beavers finished last season at 11-14 overall and returns four of its five starters.
