Beavers Look to Start Second Half Strong

The Buena Vista men's basketball team looks to bounce back following a week of close losses, as it begins the second half of the American Rivers Conference schedule inside of Siebens Fieldhouse on Monday night to host Loras College at 8:00 p.m.

Inside the Series - The Duhawks won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, 104-85, and have now won four straight in the series.  BVU's last victory was a 92-90 road win in 2016-17.  Four of the last six match-ups have been decided by two points or less.  The Beavers won 11 straight in the series from 2008-09 thru 2013-14.

About Loras - The Duhawks took a two-game win streak into Saturday's home game against Central that closed out the first half of their American Rivers Conference schedule. The they extended that streak to three with a 106-91 victory over the Dutch. Rowan McGowen hit five three-point buckets en route to a team-high 25 points while Josh Ruggles hit four treys and finished with 23 points.  The team's two losses have come at the hands of Dubuque (78-73) and top-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan (89-71).  As a team, Loras is averaging 87.8 points per game during conference play which is second while opponents are putting up 82.1 points.  It is tops in rebounding at 39.0 per game and second in turnover margin (3.13).  First Team all-conference selection, Ryan DiCanio, leads the team and sits ninth in the league in scoring at 16.4ppg against league foes.  He's also seventh in rebounding at 6.0 per contest.  Demond George is shooting better than 36 percent from downtown in conference play which is sixth in the league as is his 2.5 three-point makes per outing.

About Buena Vista - The Beavers look to end a three-game losing skid after dropping a tough 90-78 home loss against Wartburg College last Wednesday night.  Prior to that, it lost a pair of road games by a combined total of seven points to Central and Dubuque, respectively.  The team comes in averaging 72.3 points per game during conference play which is slightly less than its 78.5 points per game overall.  It got off to a strong start shooting the ball from downtown, but has been held to only 31.5 percent from long range against A-R-C foes.  Timothy Jeffries continues to lead the team in scoring overall at 13.0.ppg.  DJ McNeal has given the team a boost off the bench as of late and leads the team during conference play at 11.9ppg.  He's also averaging 1.7 made three-pointers.  As a team, BVU is second in steals per contest and sit fifth in assists.  Despite Wednesday night's loss, the Beavers are still 6-3 inside Siebens Fieldhouse this season.

Up Next:  The Duhawks will travel to Wartburg on Wednesday night for a 6:00 p.m. contest against the Knights while the Beavers will host Simpson College that same night.
