Women's Hoops Dealt Second Straight Loss

Box Score

The Buena Vista women's basketball team couldn't overcome a rough first half shooting performance on Saturday afternoon as it had its comeback bid fall just short in a 71-63, loss at Luther College.

The Beavers, despite making just three field goals in the first half, only trailed 30-18 at the half.  They were able to stay in the game by sinking 11-of-16 at the free-throw line.

BVU started to find its shooting stroke in the third, making 8-of-19 from the field, but still trailed 52-38 after three quarters.

BVU put up a game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter, but the comeback bid came up just short, as the team was unable to get any closer than seven.

Sidney Beckman turned in a team-high 17 points for the Beavers, going 5-of-16 from the field.  Sophomore Morgan Muhlbauer added 13 points and seven boards, despite battling foul trouble for a good part of the contest.

The Beavers finished the game shooting just 27 percent from the field and made only 6-of-31 from downtown.  They made more free-throws (21) than field goals (18).

It's the first time since beginning the year 0-2 that the blue and gold have dropped consecutive games.  BVU is now 8-7 overall (4-2 IIAC) and is scheduled to host Simpson College on Monday night at 6:00pm.
