Cold Shooting Dooms Beaver Men in 74-57 Loss at Simpson

Box Score

Buena Vista was held to just 33 percent shooting from the field on Wednesday night at Simpson, as the Storm broke open the game late in the first half en route to a 74-57 victory over the Beavers in Indianola.

Nick Clark scored 13 for Buena Vista and was the only Beaver to reach double figures.  It was also the first game all season he was held without an assist.  Kennedy Drey scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, to go along with four steals.

Connor Winkleman and Robby Burke each added eight points in 20 minutes off the bench with Burke also chiming in with five boards.

The Beavers led 14-9 just five minutes into the game before seeing the Storm, who made seven three-point buckets in the first half, go on a 22-1 run over the next eight minutes to go up 32-15 with 7:32 left.  Winkleman made a three and Drey connected on two free-throws to keep BVU close at 35-22.  The Beavers, however, scored just four points the frest of the half as the Storm opened up a 44-26 halftime lead.

Simpson, which finished with 11 three-point buckets, maintained that margin for nearly the entire second half, as BVU was never able to make a serious run.

Dillon Gretzky scored 14 points to lead four Storm players in double figures.

Buena Vista (9-15, 4-9 IIAC) dips into a tie with Luther College for seventh in the Iowa Conference standings and one game behind Coe College for the sixth and final spot into next week's IIAC Tournament.  BVU will wrap up the regular season against the Kohawks on Saturday afternoon while the Norse travel to Wartburg.

A win by the Beavers and a loss by the Norse would give BVU the final spot by virtue of completing the season sweep of the Kohawks. BVU edged Coe, 65-63, in the early meeting in Storm Lake.
