Last Time out:

Buena Vista dropped a rare Iowa Conference game inside of Siebens Fieldhouse on Saturday when it fell at home to Luther College, 84-70.  The Beavers made just 5-of-23 three-point shots and went 7-of-18 at the free-throw line in the contest.  Nick Clark scored a team-high 20 points and dished out seven assists to help lead the offensive attack.  Robby Burke just missed his career-high with 13 points off the bench.  Kennedy Drey narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Looking ahead:

After games with Central and Loras this week, the Beavers will wrap up the regular season with a pair of road contests next week at Simpson and Coe, respectively.  BVU is just 3-7 away from home this season and is still in search of its first Iowa Coference road win of 2015-16.

BVU vs. Central:

If Wednesday night's game shapes up anything like the earlier meeting this season, then we're in for another classic showdown.  BVU edged the Dutch back on January 23, 97-94, when Nick Clark drilled a go-ahead three-pointer in front of the Beaver bench with just 0.1 seconds left.  He ended the game with 21 points on 3-of-7 shooting from downtown.  The two sides combined to go 23-of-66 from long range and 38-of-47 at the free-throw line.  BVU has won three straight meetings in the series with its last loss to the Dutch coming in the IIAC Tournament semifinal game two years ago, 86-84.

BVU vs. Loras

The Beavers will host the Duhawks on Saturday afternoon in their final regular season home game.  It could also be the final game inside of Siebens Fieldhouse for seniors, Bobby Ivey, Nick Clark, Kyle Huisman and Jarod Juhl.

Loras edged BVU, 82-76, in the first IIAC road game of the year for Buena Vista.  Loras led by five at the half (47-42), and despite shooting under 40 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes, hung on to hand the Beavers their first league loss.  Kennedy Drey scored 23 points and hauled in 10 boards for BVU.  Loras is ranked third during conference play in field goal percentage and sits atop the list in three-point percentage at 39.4 percent.  BVU has struggled defending the long ball as of late with opponents making at least 11 treys in six of the last seven games.

BVU GAME NOTES:

IIAC Tournament: The Beavers have qualified into every IIAC Tournament since it was established in 1999-00.  During that span, BVU has posted an IIAC-record 27 wins.  With four games to play this season, the Beavers are currently one game back of Luther for sixth.  The Norse, however, own the tiebreaker with a season-sweep of BVU.

Climbing the scoring charts...BVU senior Nick Clark became the 28th player to reach the 1,000 career point milestone during BVU's home game against #6 Elmhurst on December 19. He's currently at 1,238 points and past Nick Dentlinger on Saturday for 15th on the program's all‐ time scoring chart. Barry Anderson is next at 1,259.

Double-Double: Kennedy Drey has posted nine double-doubles in 38 career Iowa Conference games.  That is the highest mark by any active BVU player (Nick Clark; 1).

Reloading Mode...BVU had only two players entering this season which had started a game in his career (Nick Clark & Kennedy Drey). Only four players had averaged at least 7 minutes per game in a single season (Clark, Drey, J. Juhl & Sean Morgan).

Dishing out the Rock...Nick Clark set a career‐high with 14 assists in the 2OT loss against Elmhurst. That is the highest total on record any player has reached in a single game under head coach Brian VanHaaften. It's still tied for the second‐highest total by any player in the nation this season. He has three games of at least 10 assists on the year. He recently became just the fourth player in school history to reach 300 career assists and his 111 so far this season is 12th.

IIAC Dominance…..BVU has either won or shared the conference regular season title nine times in Coach VanHaaften's 19 seasons. Coach 'VH' has also posted a remarkable career IIAC record of 248‐80.

Winning Ways…..BVU has posted a winning record in 18 of Van Haaften's 19 years at the helm. In the 17 years prior to him joining the program, the team won just 26 percent of its overall games. Van Haaften enters today's contest with an overall record (all at BVU) of 380‐164.
