Women's Hoops Remains Perfect in IIAC Play by Hanging on for Win at Loras

Despite squandering a 19-point lead, the Buena Vista women's basketball team managed to hang on and remain perfect in Iowa Conference play on Wednesday night with a thrilling 69-63 road contest at Loras College (3-5 (0-3 IIAC).

Claudia Larsen turned in her second double-double of the year by scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  Morgan Muhlbauer, who was Saturday's hero with her last-second shot, also matched her career-high with 12 points.

Jasmine Demers, Holly Schneider and Jessica Jager all added eight points for BVU which shot 40 percent overall as a team, depsite going just 1-of-9 from downtown in the second half.

Buena Vista jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 14 at the half, 41-27.

The Beavers led by as much as 19 points before the Duhawks began to slowly chip away.

Leading 59-47 after three quarters, BVU scored only two points through the first five minutes of the fourth as its lead was cut to 65-63 with under a minute to go.  Larsen pushed the advantage back to four with a layup before the Duhawks missed on three shot attempts on their next posession, as McKenna Whitehill secured things with her two made free-throws.

Kat Cabrera led Loras with a game-high 16 points, as the Duhawks made just 6-of-31 shots from long range and 35 percent overall.

The Beavers, winners of three straight, improve to 5-3 on the year (3-0 IIAC).  They will now have some time off for finals and wont return to action until December 17 and 18 when they travel out to Washington state to play a pair of games, beginning with Pacific Lutheran (0-6) on December 17 at 6:00pm.
