Box Score The Buena Vista women's basketball team hosted Waldorf College in its home opener on Tuesday night, and the Beavers turned in a strong second half to blow the game open en route to a 93-51 victory.
Junior Jasmine Demers turned in a career-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out a pair of assists and registering five steals.  Sophomore McKenna Whitehill also set new career-highs in points (10), assists (4) and steals (4).  Junior Claudia Larsen made her home debut and also chipped in with 10 points despite battling foul trouble for a good part of the game.
The Beaver bench produced in a big way, outscoring the Warrior bench, 43-10.  Senior Nicole Snyder was a key part of that as she connected on three straight three-point attempts to match her single-game high.  She finished with nine points and dished out three assists.
Another senior came up big as Jordan Tynes came off the bench to also score nine points, but matched a career-high with seven blocked shots.  Through four games this season, the Beavers now have 29 blocks to lead the Iowa Conference.  No other team in the league has more than 12.
BVU held a 20-13 lead after the first quarter but began to widen the margin by holding the Warriors (1-8) to just nine points in the second to take a 43-22 halftime lead.
It was then all Beavers in the second half, as they put up 26 points in the third and 24 more in the fourth to even their season record at 2-2.
The team finished the contest shooting 43 percent from the field, while making a season-high 10 three-point buckets and shooting 34.5 percent from downtown.
Defensively, the Beavers forced 38 turnovers, including 22 steals, and scored 42 points off those miscues.
BVU is now off until traveling back to St. Peter, Minn., on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00pm non-conference tip-off against Gustavus Adolphus.
