Box Score Lexi Fisher made a three-pointer to tie the game for Buena Vista at 71-71 late in regulation only to see Loras' Lori Obendorf make a layup just before the buzzer sounded to send the Beavers to a heartbreaking 73-71 Iowa Conference road loss on Saturday afternoon.
Sidney Beckman came off the bench and turned in a huge game, making 6-of-11 from downtown en route to a team-leading 18 points. Jasmyn Flynn-Graves had another solid outing with 16 points, while Becca Pennington added 14 points.
BVU made 10-of-26 shots from long range and was 40.3 percent overall from the field. The Beavers, however, were outrebounded on the glass, 47-20, including a 10-4 margin on the offensive end.
It was a highly-contested game from start to finish with neither team leading by more than six and there being 17 lead changes.
The Beavers foreced 22 Duhawk turnovers in the game while serving it up only eight times. That led to a 25-8 advantage on points off turnovers.
Buena Vista led 25-22 after the first quarter and took a 39-37 advantage in the half. Each team scored 15 points in the third quarter giving BVU the same margin heading to the final frame.
The Duhakws began on a 10-3 run to build their largest lead of the game at 62-57. Beckman hit a three to make it a two-point game with 7:28 left before Pennington and Fisher added layups to give the Beaves the lead back at 64-62.
BVU remained in front at 68-65 before the Duhakws went on a 6-0 run to take a 71-68 lead with 42 seconds remaining. Fisher, who finished with eight points, then made her only long-range bucket of the game with 22 seconds left to pull the team even at 71-71. After consecutive timeouts by the Duhawks, and one by BVU, Obendorf came through with the game-winner for Loras (8-4, 2-0 IIAC).
Obendorf turned in 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to help lead three starters in double-figures for Loras.
Buena Vista is now 7-6 on the year (1-1 IIAC) and will return home next week for a pair of games, beginning with Wednesday night's contest at 6:00pm against Coe (9-4, 0-2 IIAC).
