Box Score Senior Jasmyn Flynn-Graves scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Jordan Tynes added a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double, and the Buena Vista women's basketball held off a late Wartburg rally to finish the upset of the #13 Knights, 83-80.
Flynn-Graves made 10-of-22 attempts from the field en route to her second straight 20-point outing. Tynes was good on 7-of-10 from the field and had a game-high six offensive rebounds.
Lacey Vokt made 2-of-3 from downtown and went 4-of-6 at the free-throw line to add 14 points as Fisher made three treys and finished with 11 points. She was two rebounds and three assists shy of a triple-double. Vokt chipped in with five assists.
The Beavers made 7-of-22 from beyond the arc and shot 44 percent from the field overall. BVU also held a convincing 16-8 advantage in second chance points and outscored the Knights by seven at the charity stripe.
The game was back-and-forth throughout the first quarter with nine lead changes until BVU ended the frame on an 8-2 run to take a 25-20 lead.
BVU extended the lead to seven in the early going of the second before the Knights got back within two at 29-27. The Beavers came right back with a 10-2 spurt to buil their first double-digit lead of the game at 39-29 with 4:27 left. Wartburg fought back to within 43-40 on a layup with 28 seconds left before Pennington added two late free-throws to give BVU a 45-40 lead at the break.
Buena Vista led by as many as seven in the third, but Wartburg kept the lead within three for most of the frame. Kailey Kladivo's layup just before the buzzer cut the gap to 63-60 heading to the fourth.
Fisher hit a three early in the final stanza to push the Beaver lead back to seven, but Wartburg hung around and again got within two with 5:30 to play. The game remained close down the stretch as Katie Sommer hit one of Wartburg's 11 three's in the game to make it a two-point game with just over a minute to play.
The Knights would go empty on their next five possessions as Vokt and Pennington made four straight free-throws to make it a six-point lead with only five seconds left. The Knights did hit a three as time expired, but were dealt their second straight loss after having won 10 straight.
Buena Vista has now won three straight over Wartburg inside of Siebens Fieldhouse and improves to 8-7 this season and 2-2 in conference play. The Beavers will be back in action again on Wednesday, January 20 when the team travels to the University of Dubuque (5-10, 0-4 IIAC) for a 6:00pm tip-off.
