Turnovers Plaugue Beavers in Tough Loss to the Storm

Box Score

The Buena Vista women's basketball looked to keep its Iowa Conference Tournament hopes alive on Saturday afternoon, but the Beavers couldn't overcome 25 turnovers and a rough 30 percent shooting performance during their 77-53 home loss against Simpson College.

Senior Shelby Wiederhoeft was the lone Beaver to reach double figures in scoring, registering 11 points in her final career contest inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.  She also grabbed a team-leading six rebounds and had two of the team's eight steals.

Becca Pennington followed with eight points, while freshman Jasmine Demers turned in six points and four rebounds.

Despite shooting 30 percent from the field, BVU did make all 16 of its free-throw attempts.

The Storm scored 27 points off of Beaver turnovers and also out-rebounded BVU, 37-31.  They had 18 second chance points, compared to only nine for BVU.

Simpson (16-7, 6-6 IIAC) began the game on a 26-9 run and virtually remained in control from there, leading 45-23 at the half and by as many as 32 in the second half.

Buena Vista is now 8-15, 3-9 IIAC and will wrap up the season with a pair of games next week, starting with Wednesday night's road game at the University of Dubuque (15-8, 9-3 IIAC).  The Spartans fell back into a first-place tie after a road loss at Wartburg on Saturday.
