Box Score Sidney Beckman made 6-of-12 shots from downtown and finished with a game-high 20 points, while Jasmyn Flynn-Graves followed with 15 to help pace the Buena Vista women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon en route to a 75-52 road victory at North Central (Minn.).
The Rams (1-3) held a slim 5-3 lead in the early minutes of the contest before a layup by Flynn-Graves sparked a 14-3 Beaver run that virtually gave BVU the lead for good.
Buena Vista led 19-13 after the first quarter and began pulling away in the second en route to a 38-23 halftime lead. In that second stanza, Beckman drilled all three of her long range attemps before adding a layup in the final seconds to score 11 points in the period.
Beckman, along with Becca Pennington, added two three-pointers each in the third quarter as BVU shot 5-of-13 from downtown in the quarter, while outscoring the Rams 24-10, and extending its lead to 62-33.
North Central tried to mount a comeback over the final 10:00 by starting the frame on a 13-2 run to make it a 64-46 contest. A basket and free-throw by Flynn-Graves, followed by Beckman's final three-pointer, stopped the threat and put the Beavers back in front 70-46 with 3:01 to go.
Buena Vista remained in control over the final minutes to post back-to-back wins on the team's first road trip of the year.
Beckman finished 7-of-15 overall from the field to give BVU a 20-point scorer in two of the team's first three games this season. Flynn-Graves made 5-of-13 from the field and made 5-of-7 at the charity stripe. She's now been to the free-throw line 20 times in three games and is shooting 75 percent (15-of-20).
Pennington fell a basket shy of reaching double figures for the third straight game, finishing with eight points and two rebounds. Morgan Muhlbauer, who registered a career-high on Friday, nearly matched that total again in this contest, chipping in with eight points and five rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench. Liz Riessen matched her career-high with eight points, including a pair of three's, in just 10 minutes.
Lacey Vokt hauled in a team-high eight rebounds, to go along with two assist and two steals. Jasmine Demers dished out a career-high five assists.
The Beavers shot 36 percent overall from the field, despite another strong three-point shooting effort (41.4 percent). After attempting 53 free-throws combined in the first two games, BVU went to the line only nine times against the Rams (7-of-9).
The win pushes BVU to 2-1 overall as it returns to Siebens Fieldhouse on Tuesday, November 24, for a non-conference game against Gustavus Adolphus. Tip-off inside of Siebens Fieldhouse is set for 7:00pm.
