Box Score The Buena Vista women's basketball team held a 75-72 lead late in regulation on Saturday evening at Wartburg, but the Knights closed the game on a 13-0 run and prevailed with an 85-75 Iowa Conference victory inside of Levick Arena.
Senior Becca Pennington hit a three-pointer with 2:20 left, but the Knights answered with a three of their own to tie it right back up.
Three straight turnovers by BVU led to four more points for Wartburg as it built a 79-75 advantage with 1:15 left in regulation.
BVU misfired on a pair of late three-point shot opportunities, while Wartburg converted all six of its free-throw attempts down the stretch to push the lead up to 10.
Junior Jasmyn Flynn-Graves led five players in doubel figures for BVU, scoring 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Sidney Beckman drilled a trio of three-point shots on the day and finished with 12 points, alongside Pennington, who had two three-point baskets.
Junior Lacey Vokt added 11 points and grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds, while senior Shelby Wiederhoeft finished with 10 points, on 5-of-9 shooting.
The Beavers came out shooting the ball well from the opening tip as they built an early 13-5 lead. Five straight points by Wartburg made it a 13-10 contest, as the Knights would later tie things up at 18-18 midway through the opening half.
BVU took the lead back and would be in front for a good part of the first half until Wartburg took a 31-30 lead with just under four minutes left en route to a 41-36 halftime lead.
Buena Vista finished the game shooting 43 percent from the field, including 6-of-16 from behind the arc, but made just 15-of-24 shots at the free-throw line.
Wartburg made 47 percent of its field goal attempts and 13-of-16 at the charity stripe.
Kristie Sommer led all scores with 20 points for the Knights, who improved to 11-6, 2-4 IIAC.
The Beavers fall to 6-11 overall, 1-5 IIAC and will return home on Wednesday night, January 28th, for a 6:00pm tip-off against #25 Luther College (14-3, 4-2 IIAC).
