Women's Hoops set for Road Match-up at Central Tonight

Box Score

Still searching for their first conference victory, the Buena Vista women's basketball team returns to the hardwood after a heartbreaking, 82-73 overtime loss at home against the University of Dubuque. They will head to Pella to face the Central College Dutch (9-6, 0-4 IIAC) who are also looking for their first win in conference play. Tipoff is set for 6pm, Wednesday night inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.

The Beavers (5-10, 0-4 IIAC) had another comeback fall short, this time in overtime.  It was an intentionally-missed free-throw by junior Lacey Vokt and put back by junior Jasmyn Flynn-Graves that tied things up at 70-70 with under five seconds left that sent Saturday's game to overtime. Flynn-Graves (13 points, 10 rebounds) posted a double-double and freshman Jasmine Demers tied her career-high with 13 points. Senior Shelby Wiederhoeft (10 points) as well as senior Becca Pennington (12 points) and junior Lexi Fisher (11 points) also notched double-digits.

The Dutch were defeated at Loras College, Saturday, 72-65, despite shooting over 41 percent from the field and 40 percent from downtown. Senior Kenzie Vander Molen had a game high 19 points for the Dutch and freshman Tina Lane chipped in 14 points.

The Beavers held the University of Dubuque to 32 percent shooting and just over 21 percent from the arc but only shot 30.8 percent from the floor, themselves. The rebounding battle was even at 56 rebounds apiece and the Beavers were able to force 22 turnovers.

The Dutch held Loras College to 30 percent shooting in the 2nd half, Saturday, but were not as sharp in the first half when Loras shot 51 percent and went 7-13 from the arc. The Dutch were outrebounded, 44-26 and also forced 22 turnovers while only committing fifteen.

Central is averaging a league-low 52 points against IIAC foes, but do rank second in scoring defense, allowing just 62ppg.  The Beavers come in ranked fourth in field goal defense (41.2 percent) and second in rebounding (45.8rpg).  Both teams, however, rank at the bottom in assist/turnover ratio.

Last year, the two teams split the season series with both home teams victorious on their home floor. BV's seniors take a 4-2 record to the floor against the Dutch and look to win their first road game since December 2nd at Martin Luther.
