Box Score Susan Kies turned in a game-high 22 points, while Shelby Wiederhoeft added 13 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't quite enough in the end as Loras College hung on for an 83-79 victory inside of Siebens Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Kies hit on 7-of-20 attempts from the field, including 4-of-8 from downtown, to go along with six assist. Wiederhoeft finished 4-of-8 from the field and 5-of-5 at the free-throw line. Sophomore Lexi Fisher also hit four three-point buckets in the contest and tallied 16 points, while grabbing five boards. Malarie Gilley chimed in with 11 points offensively, while posting a game-high four blocks.
Loras used a 9-0 run early on to take a 19-10 lead before going in front 23-13 midway through the half. The Beavers hung around and pulled back even at 34-34 on a Kies three-pointer with 3:37 remaining. The game was back-and-forth the rest of the period with the Duhawks clinging to a 41-40 lead at intermission.
Kies put BVU in front by five at 50-45 with another three just five minutes into the second half, but the Beavers were never ever to pull away in the game.
The Duhawks responded with a 13-0 spurt that put them up 58-50 midway through. BVU again clawed back to within three at 60-57 when Kies hit yet another three and tied things up at 65-65 on a Lacey Vokt triple with 5:24 left. Loras, who attempted 27 more free-throws than BVU in the contest, scored 12 of their final 18 points at the charity stripe to secure the win.
BVU shot 43 percent from the field in the contest, including 9-of-22 from downtown, while also sinking 16-of-19 at the free-throw line.
The Duhawks (7-6, 2-0 IIAC), meanwhile, shot 45 percent from the field, but scored 34 points at the free-throw line in 46 attempts.
Buena Vista dips to 6-7 overall (0-2 IIAC) and will now be back on the road for a pair of conference contest next week beginning with Simpson College (5-8, 0-2 IIAC).
