About Brett: Is the son of Le Ann Van Winegarden and the late Dean Heitkamp.
High School Highlights: Was a two-time letterwinner on the court for the Dragons.
Collegiate Highlights:
2014-15: Played in all 26 games and made eight starts. He averaged 7.4 points per game and was 12th in the IIAC in rebounding during conference play (5.7rpg). In all games, he shot 58.3 percent from the field and was a 67 percent free-throw shooter. Defensively, he also added 36 blocked shots and ranked third during IIAC play, averaging better than 1.0 per contest. He turned in a season-high 17 points in a win over Central and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds in a win over Delaware Valley. Following the school year, he was invited to take part in an iBall Pro Combine with pro scouts from various level in attendance.
2013-14: Brett had a career-year as a junior when he played in all 27 games and averaged a career-high 7.7ppg and 5.9rpg for the year. He ranked fourth for the team in field goal shooting (54.3 percent) and was second in free-throw shooting (80 percent). He turned in a career-best 19 points against Alma on December 30. He registered his first career double-double when he scored 11 points and hauled in 10 rebounds during the IIAC opener at Coe College on January 8.
2012-13: He appeared in all 26 games for the Beavers, including 20 starts. For the year, he averaged 4.5 points and 3.8 rebounds while playing in nearly 16.0 minutes per contest. He got his first career start in the team''s season-opener against Carthage where he scored three points and grabbed five rebounds. He later turned in a career-high 12 points at Gustavus Adolphus on December 8, while grabbing a career-best eight rebounds in the second game of the year against Concordia (Wis.) on November 17.
2011-12: Brett saw significant playing time and turned in a solid year playing for the junior varsity team as a freshman.
Aside from playing basketball, he''s also volunteered for various campus activities, including Impact.
