David Wells enters his fifth season as head women's basketball coach in 2023-24.
Wells, who has an overall career record of 16-64 (8-48 A-R-C), coached the Beavers to an adjusted eight-game conference-only schedule in 2020-21 as a result of COVID-19. Despite the adjustment, he coached the A-R-C Defensive Player of the Year that season as well as its first First Team all-conference selection in three years.
During his first season on campus, Wells had one player earn Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades and had seven players earn academic all-conference honors. That same year, his Beaver squad also landed the nation's highest cumulative team GPA (regardless of division) of 3.865 - the highest mark by any program in 19 years.
Overall, Wells has coached one all-conference and four honorable mentions players, along with 28 academic all-conference student-athletes. In 2022-23, the Beavers also had four individuals named Academic All-District.
