Matt Tennyson is set for his second season as an assistant men's soccer coach at his alma mater in 2020. He played keeper for BVU from 2013-16.
In his return to campus in 2019, Tennyson worked heavily with the team's keepers and helped coach the conference's leader in saves during the 2019 campaign.
After graduation from BVU in 2017, Tennyson spent two academic school years teaching elementary school. His first year out of undergrad was at Grenada Huntley East Chain Elementary School (Minn.) where he taught all subjects in a fifth-grade classroom. Following that, he spent the '18-'19 school year at Perry-Lecompton Middle School (Kan.), where he taught sixth-grade math, science, and CSI elective course.
Outside the classroom, Tennyson was been active in the coaching world, taking Fairmont High School's female 17s team to the state tournament for the first time in history. He also has experience coaching Jr. High boys soccer at Fairmont High School in the fall of 2017. Tennyson found his passion for coaching while volunteering at Storm Lake Elementary School, spending his college years coaching indoor soccer.
During his playing career for the Beavers, Tennyson was named a captain his junior and senior year, being chosen as an All-Iowa Conference Honorable Mention selection his senior campaign. Tennyson registered 147 career saves, 68 during his senior year, 14 of which came in his career-finale against Simpson. He ended his playing career with a save percentage of 0.723 and two shutouts.
Tennyson moved back to Storm Lake with his wife, Jamie (Navinskey), a 2018 alumna and past member of the BVU volleyball team.
