About Michael: Is the son of Lee andJulie...has one brother, Randy (played football at Buena Vista), aswell as two sisters, Kayla and twin, Mary, who plays volleyball atSimpson.
High School Highlights: Three-time letterwinnerin basketball for the Cyclones and was a two-time All-Stateselection, including a spot on the First Team as a senior. Helpedlead the team to a state runner-up finish in 2008 and a fourthplace finish in 2009.
In addition to basketball, he lettered three times in footballand four times in both track and baseball. On the gridiron, he wasthe starting quarterback for the state championship team as asenior and was named First Team All-State and captain of WesternIowa Class 4A/3A offense. In track, he was a four-time statequalifier. On the diamond, he was the shortstop on the staterunner-up team in 2008 and was named Third Team All-State in2009.
Aside from athletics, he received the Hawkeye 10 ConferenceCitizenship Award, was Academic All-Conference in football,basketball, track and baseball, and was listed on the HonorRoll.
College Highlights:
2013-14: He played in 26 games for the Beavers in hisfinal collegiate season, including 17 starts. He shot 41.3percent from the field and was 42.7 percent from long range. That mark was best on the team and ranked second in the IowaConference. He dished out 67 assists on the year and wrappedup his career ranked fourth all-time with 215. His 34 stealson the year give him 126 in his four years - ranking ninth on theschool''s all-time list. He had three double-digit scoringgames on the year, inlcuding a season-best 17 points, on 5-of-8shooting from downtown, against Central on February 12. Heturned in 12 points, including four three-point buckets in hisfinal career home game againt Wartburg in the opening round of theIIAC Tournament on February 25.
2012-13: He started all 26 of the team''s games and averagednearly 24 minutes per outing. He ranked seventh in scoring(4.9ppg) while shooting 35 percent from the field. He turnedin a season-high 13 points in a win against Northwestern-St. Paulon November 30 where he made 3-of-4 three-point attempts. Hedished out a seaso-high four assists on five differentoccassions. He was also one of the team''s best free-throwshooters at 83.4 percent. For the second straight season, Michaelwas also an Academic All-IIAC selection.
2011-12: As a sophomore, he started all 27 of the team''s gamesand was fourth on the team in scoring. He ranked fifth in the IIACin assists/game and 13th in steals/game, while sitting atop theleague in assists/turnover ratio (1.93). He turned in a career-best22 points, including 5-of-6 from downtown, during the team''sseason-opener against Gustavus Adolphus. He later dished out acareer-best nine assists versus Central on January 28. He''ll enterhis junior campaign ranked 23rd on the program''s all-time assistslist. His 87 assists last season ranked 21st in single-seasonhistory. Following the year, he was named to the AcademicAll-IIAC Team.
2010-11: Michael stepped in and became the team''s startingpoint guard as a freshman. He scored 14 points, on 5-of-8 shooting,while also recording three steals, in his collegiate debut againstGustavus Adolphus. He finished the year ranked fifth in scoring,while leading the way in assists and steals. His 27 three-pointbuckets also ranked third.
