Sam Slight joined the men's basketball coaching staff in 2026, following a successful two-year stint as an assistant coach at Storm Lake High School, where he played a key role in one of the most accomplished stretches in program history.
During Slight’s tenure, Storm Lake earned back-to-back state tournament appearances and consecutive undefeated Lakes Conference seasons. The program broke multiple decades-long barriers along the way, reaching the state tournament for the first time since 1994 and earning its first state tournament victory since 1980.
A 2022 graduate of Storm Lake High School and a 2026 graduate of Buena Vista University, Slight earned his degree in Sports Business, Finance and Management with a minor in Accounting. His experience combines player development and relationship building with a strong understanding of the organizational and business side of athletics.
Slight brings a competitive, player-first approach to coaching with an emphasis on skill development, accountability and building a winning team culture. He is passionate about developing student-athletes on and off the court while contributing to the long-term growth and success of the program.
