About Ian: Is the son of Lance and Letha Grigsby...has two sisters, Elizabeth and Jennifer.
High School Highlights: Received Super-State honors, All-State honors and All-Conference honors in 2011. Ian was a three-time letter winner in baseball and a two-time letter winner in cross country. Aside from athletics, he also received Academic All-American honors, was president of the Spanish Club and a member of the National Honor Society.
College Highlights:
2015: Made 12 appearances, including a pair of starts, and posted a 1-3 record and a 4.41 ERA. He ranked sixth on the staff with 34.2 innings pitched. For the years, he posted 21 strikeouts and 12 walks. He pitched a season-high six innings and was charged with four runs in 4-1 loss to Coe on April 21. He picked up his lone win when he worked four innings, alllowed just three hits and struck out a season-high six at Coe on March 31.
2014: He ranked second on the staff with 15 appearances on the year and posted a team-leading 0.74 ERA over 24.1 innings, while going 2-2 overall with a single-season school record of eight saves. He allowed just nine runs (two earned) and 12 hits, as opponents hit only .140 against him. He struckout a career-high 30 and issued only eight walks. He picked up his first save in the season-opener against St. Thomas and his first win came two appearances later when he pitched two innings against Nebraska Wesleyan. During IIAC play, he worked 13.1 innings, allowed just 10 hits and struck out 21, while recording six saves. He also pitched a career-high five innings of relief against Rose-Hulman in the NCAA Regionals, allowing just one run and one hit while striking out four in a 4-3 loss. Following the year, he was named First Team All-IIAC and was also selected to the Academic All-IIAC Team.
2013: Made seven starts and compiled an 0-3 record and a 4.08 ERA. He pitched 28.2 innings and struck out 23. He worked a season-high 6.2 innings and allowed three runs while striking out a career-high seven during a 3-0 loss at Dubuque on April 13. He allowed just one run and scattered six hits while striking out four during a 2-1 win at Simpson on April 20. Following the year, he was selected to the Academic All-IIAC Team in his first year of eligibility.
2012: Ian made nine appearances on the mound throughout his freshman campaign, including starts in the last four. He made his collegiate debut against Washington University on March 2 and allowed only one earned run over 2.2 innings, while striking out four. He made his first career start at Luther College on April 6 and pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout, striking out three during game one of the doubleheader. After sitting out nearly three weeks due to injury, he returned to make the start in the opener of the IIAC Tournament against Luther and picked up the win after pitching five innings, allowing just two runs on three hits, while striking out three. Prior to his injury, he struck out a career-high seven batters over eight innings during a win against the University of Dubuque to open that three-game weekend series.
