WATERTOWN, Wis. (Sept. 24, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's soccer team went on the road Thursday afternoon for a non-conference road match at Maranatha Baptist, and the Beavers got two goals each from
Jacob Freund and Brendon Batemon en route to a big 5-0 victory.
Freund wasted no time putting BVU on the board as he broke the scoreless match with his first goal of the day less than seven minutes into play.
Brayden Schwinck then doubled the score 10 minutes later off a nice feed from
Lucas Ehle. Three minutes later, the Beavers went up 3-0 when Batemon scored off an assists from
Raymond Hernandez before adding an unassisted goal three minutes later that put BVU up 4-0 at the half.
BVU finished the opening half with six total shots with four resulting in goal. The second half was a defensive battle with the only goal coming midway through when Freund scored for the second time on the day off an assist from Schwinck.
Schwinck led the way with three total shots, one goal and one assist. Freund and Batemon each scored on both of their two shots as the Beavers registered 11 overall.
Christian Pogue got the start in-goal and played the first half and turned in two saves before
Ben Kemp came on for the second half and chalked up three saves. The duo teamed up for the team's first shutout of the year.
Buena Vista improves to 2-3-2 overall and will host Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The match has been relocated from Ankeny to Storm Lake due to unplayable field conditions.
