The deciding match on the night was Ryan Smith at No. 4 as he notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory for his fourth singles win of the year.
“We came out of the gate playing aggressively but smart, and that translated into three straight doubles wins and the first big point of the night,” said BVU head coach Brett Groen. Our doubles point turned out to be a huge point for us, not only for this match, but our confidence, as we have been working on attacking so much more lately, and it paid off tonight.
“The momentum from doubles gave us a shot of confidence at the start of singles, and both Tyler and Nick were one or two deuce points away from changing their matches. Bryson rolled to his win and ever since late February, he has played with a great deal of confidence, and it shows in his scores. Ryan has developed his game match-by-match, and it showed tonight, as he leveled out any lows that he was having by rising up the next game and taking control.”
