DES MOINES, Iowa (Apr. 26, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's golf teed-off its opening round of the A-R-C Championships on Sunday at Glen Oaks Golf & Country Club, and after a little bit of a tough start, the Beavers finished strong on the back nine and posted a 310 and is in sixth place after 18 holes.
Senior
Matthew Turpen came out strong and was sitting at even par through 13 holes before a bogey at the par-3 14th and then finished with a double-bogey on the par-4 18th to close the round at 3-over 74 and a tie for 10th.
Kaleb Sander (77), Reid Haney (79) and
Gabe Kramer (80) round out the scoring rounds for BVU. Sander ended with a team-high three birdies on his round but also had three double bogeys. Kramer closed strong with a birdie on the 18th hole after chalking up a double bogey the hole before.
Mason Laven was the fifth player on the course for the Beavers and carded an 81
Overall, the Beavers are only three shots behind Wartburg for fifth and just six behind Nebraska Wesleyan for fourth. Individually, Turpen is just three shots outside of the top-5. Kramer is tied for 30th but only six shots from the top-10.
The University of Dubuque's Luke Harkwich fired an opening round 67 and is the clubhouse leader by two strokes over Central College's Carter Yurage. The Spartans, as a team, turned in an opening round 287 and leads the Dutch in the team race by nine shots.
BVU will be in the second wave of golfers to tee-off on Monday morning. The Beavers will be paired with golfers from both the Knights and Prairie Wolves. Laven will be the team's first individual off the tee as he begins at the first tee-box at 9:54 a.m. Turpen will be BVU's final golfer to get out on the course at 10:12 a.m.
