Neb. Wesleyan Rallies and Hands Baseball 8-6 Loss

LINCOLN, Neb. (Apr. 21, 2026) - The Buena Vista baseball team traveled to Neb. Wesleyan on Tuesday night to complete the season series with the Prairie Wolves, but after the Beavers took their first lead in the top of the eighth inning, NWU rallied in the bottom half with four runs to win the game 8-6.

The Prairie Wolves broke a scoreless game with a run in the second inning on a solo home run, but the Beavers quickly responded back in the third to tie the game on a solo home run from freshman Kalab Kuhl that marked his first collegiate long ball. Entering the game, Kuhl had only four at-bats on the year as most of his 12 appearances on the year had come solely on the mound. He finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and a pair of runs scored.

NWU retook the lead at 4-1 in the bottom of the third which began with another solo home run followed by an RBI triple and a run-scoring ground out. BVU got one run back in the sixth when sophomore Dylan Johnson launched his team-leading sixth home run of the year to right field for his only hit of the game. That's how things stood until the eighth inning when the Beavers pushed across four runs. Freshman Grant Preuss got the scoring started with an RBI double before Kuhl followed with an RBI single that tied it up at 4-4. Freshman Benjamin Byington gave BVU the lead when he reached on a fielder's choice to drive in a run while a second run came into score on a throwing error.

In the bottom of the inning, the Prairie Wolves loaded the bases with no outs after back-to-back walks, and would tie the game on a two-run single, and then pushed across a pair of unearned runs following a throwing error that made it 8-6.

Dylan Johnson came on in relief in the middle of the eighth inning and would be charged with allowing two of the four runs (one earned) and suffered the loss. Junior Jake Eddie made the start and pitched 2.1 innings and allowed four runs and five hits while striking out two and walking only one. Junior Koleson Evans had another dominant appearance in relief, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing only one hit, struck out seven and issued just two walks.

Buena Vista drops to 9-26 overall (5-16 A-R-C) and will be off until Tuesday, Apr. 28 when it is scheduled to play an exhibition game at South Dakota State University starting at 3 p.m.
