LINCOLN, Neb. (Apr. 15, 2026) - The Buena Vista softball team continued its American Rivers Conference schedule on Wednesday evening but was edged in both games of the doubleheader, dropping game one 4-0 before suffering a 6-2 setback in the finale.
The Prairie Wolves had a two-run single in the first inning and tacked on two more runs in the fourth of game one to account for the game's only scoring.
BVU threatened in multiple innings but couldn't come through with the big hits when needed. In the first inning, the Beavers put runners at first and second and no outs but had a hard hit ground ball right to third that resulted in a 5-3 double play. Freshman
Maddy Raveling doubled to lead off the third inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch with only one out but was stranded there. Back-to-back errors to start the fourth put two runners on with a sacrifice bunt advancing them to second and third with only one out, but NWU escaped with a ground out and strikeout.
Overall, the Beavers stranded eight runners in the game while the Prairie Wolves left seven on the base paths.
Raveling was 2-for-4 with the double with fellow freshman
Karlee Noe also going 2-for-4. The duo combined to record four of the team's five hits overall.
Kali Irlmeier pitched a complete-game with only two of the four runs she surrendered being earned.
The Beavers took their first lead against a conference foe to start game two by pushing across one run in the first on an RBI ground out by Noe and a second in the third inning with an RBI single from sophomore
Jordan Fabirkiewicz for a 2-0 lead. The lead was then erased in the bottom half as NWU (13-16, 4-4- A-R-C) came back with five runs and five hits and led 5-2. The Prairie Wolves later added their final run in the sixth inning.
Raveling added a double and a stolen bast and finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Junior
Jillian Garcia was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored as the team again finished with five hits.
Paige Mahler made the start inside the circle and was cruising early on but was unable to make it through the third inning. All five runs she allowed, however, were unearned. Ryle Garner finished things off and surrendered only one unearned run and four hits while walking two and striking out two.
Buena Vista moves to 6-22 on the year (0-4 A-R-C) and will finally return home this weekend for a pair of A-R-C doubleheaders. The team begins the home stand against Luther College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
