Overwatch and Smash competed in MVEC LAN at Illinois College

Smash finished 2nd - Overwatch finished 4th

JACKSONVILLE, Illinois - The Buena Vista University Overwatch and Smash Gold teams competed last weekend in the Spring MVEC LAN tournament at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois. Overwatch competed well but finished 1-2 on the day earning a 4th place finish. The Beavers Smash team went 2-2 overall finishing 2nd at the tournament. 

Overwatch came into the tournament with a 5-2 overall record earning the 3rd seed after regular season play. BVU opened the day competing against #6 Wartburg in the quarterfinals. The Beavers won 4-0 advancing to the semifinals to take on #2 seed Coe College. Coe College ended up winning the tournament and defeated the Beavers 4-0. The Beavers took on #4 seed Cornell College. The two teams battled back and forth just like all their game this season. Unfortunately the Beavers came up short falling on the final map in overtime. 

BVU Smash squad opened up the tournament getting a bye into the semifinals. The Beavers competed against #5 St. Ambrose University in the semifinals. BVU opened up winning game one 3-2 before falling in game two 5-4 in overtime. In game three the Beavers took control winning 4-1 advancing to the winners finals against #2 Illinois College. The two squad competed close but the Blue Boys won 7-5, 4-3. 

This would force a rematch against St. Ambrose in the losers finals. BVU took the match 2-0 winning game one 3-2 before closing it out 4-0 in game two. They advanced to the Grand Finals taking on Illinois College once again. The Beavers put up a fight but fell 2-1. BVU opened up taking game one 5-4 before falling 7-5 in game two. In the deciding match the Blue Boys took control early closing out the victory winning 5-1. 

Great season by both teams as Overwatch finished 3rd in regular season and 4th at LAN. Smash finished 1st in regular season and 2nd at the LAN. Smash finished with a 9-2 overall record.
