MT. VERNON, Iowa (March 29, 2026) - The Buena Vista softball team was back in action for the second straight time as it went back on the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Cornell College, but the Rams would spoil the day by winning a pair of 8-0, 5-inning games over the Beavers.
Cornell scored in four of the five innings of game one, including a walk-off two-run home run during a four-run fourth. The Rams finished with 12 hits overall and held BVU hitless in the game.
Grace Fuhrman (0-4) suffered the loss as she was charged with seven runs and 11 hits in her four innings. Kenize Dumbaugh came on in relief and faced the final batter.
Brooke Furman led Cornell at the plate by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
In game two, Cornell was aided by a five-run fourth inning that broke open a 3-0 game.Â
Freshmen
Karlee Noe and
Ella Brown each singled for the only two hits for the Beavers who fall to 8-16 on the year. Noe got the start in the circle and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) and 10 hits despite striking out four.
The Beavers now shift their attention to American Rivers Conference play which begins next Saturday, April 4, when they host the University of Dubuque in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
