STORM LAKE, Iowa - Both the BVU Smash Gold and Navy teams opened up NECC playoffs with quarterfinal victories. Smash Gold is the #1 seed in Division IV Midwest while Smash Navy is #2 seed in Division V East.
Smash Gold opened up their playoff season with a 2-0 (12-7, 12-10) victory against #8 Michigan JV3 on Tuesday night.
Gregory Stueven opened up play going 2-3 making the score 10-9 in favor of Michigan.
Matthew Forristal then went 5-3 making the score 6-5 in favor of BVU going into our third player.
James Cheney ended up finishing off the Michigan squad going 5-1 to pick up the opening set victory. In game two the two teams played closer but the Beavers came out on top. Stueven opened up play going 3-3. Isacc Hatchitt went 2-3 before Michah Garringer and Cheney closed out the match picking up the 12-10 victory.Â
BVU Navy dominated #7 Husson winning 12-8, 12-4. In game on
Alex Galati went 6-3, Voldy Kadisha went 2-3 and
Simon Cooper went 4-2. In game two Galati and Kadisha ran through the lineup. Kadisha opened up going 7-3 before Galati ended going 5-2 for the victory. Navy remains undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record.Â
