MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 14, 2026) - The Buena Vista baseball team wrapped up its spring trip on Saturday afternoon, and after jumping out to an early lead, saw #22 Rhodes plate eight runs during the sixth innings and pulled away for a 13-6 victory to secure the series win.
BVU got on the board in the top of the first inning when sophomore designated hitter
Dylan Johnson launched a 3-run home run to right center field for his third long ball of the year and one of only four hits in the game for the Beavers. The Lynk got one of those runs back in the second inning before taking their first lead in the third with a two-run double that was then followed by a solo home run to make it 4-3.
A bases loaded walk in the fifth made it 5-3 before the Lynx scored eight runs on just four hits in the sixth to break things open.
The Beavers needed to score in the seventh to keep the game going and did so three times with only one hit in the inning. Sophomore
Teagen Kasel drew a bases load walk for his fifth RBI of the year. Sophomore
Kaden Struck was then hit by a pitch that scored
Seth Busch while sophomore
Cooper Sobeck added a sacrifice fly for the final run.
Busch, along with
Jake Eddie and
Kalab Kuhl, added one hit for the Beavers, who would be out-hit 12-4 overall. The Lynx did strand 16 base runners while BVU had six.
Dylan Johnson (1-2) made the start and went 5.0 innings, allowed five runs and seven hurts but did walk six batters and struck out four.
Koleson Evans took over and lasted only 0.1 innings after walking three and allowing four runs and no hits. BVU used a total of six pitchers on the day.
Brad Larson and Sam Reardon each had three hits to help lead the Lynx (10-4).
Buena Vista is now 3-9 and will now look forward to an 11-game home stand that is scheduled to begin with a non-conference doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran College on Tuesday, March 17th at 1 p.m.
