CLERMONT, Fla. (March 12, 2026) - The Buena Vista softball team had its current run of narrow losses continue on Thursday morning as it continued The Spring Games with a pair of 7-6 setbacks against both Skidmore College and Lasell University.

BVU used a big first inning to build a 3-1 lead. The scoring began with a 2-run double from freshman Hanna Merron and followed by an RBI single from Jaylynn Craun.

Skidmore cut the deficit in half in the second by scoring a run on a wild pitch for the second straight inning. It then tacked on four more runs in the third to take the lead for good at 6-3. The two teams then traded single runs which gave the Thoroughbreds a 7-4 advantage.

The Beavers put together a valiant effort late and nearly pulled off the comeback. Geneva Galler doubled home a run in the sixth with just one out to make it 7-5 but was then stranded there. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Kali Irlmeier singled to center with two outs to score Jordan Fabirkiewicz, but then Irlmeier would be forced out at second on a ground ball to end the game.

Irlmeier was 3-for-4 in the game with a double and the one RBI while Fabirkiewicz and Craun each added two hits. Freshmen Maddy Raveling and Zoey Thayer also added doubled in the game as the Beavers tallied 12 hits overall.

Freshman Ella Brown (0-1) got the start and would suffer the loss after allowing four runs and three hits over 2.0 innings of work. Fellow freshman Karlee Noe pitched five solid innings of relief, allowing three unearned runs while scattering seven hits. She struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
