BVU led 16-13 after a three-pointer by Cone with 2:12 to play in the first quarter but did not make another field goal until there was 1:11 remaining in the half. The team finished just 1-for-11 shooting in the second quarter and scored just seven points. During that stretch, the Kohawks used a 20-1 run to take control and led 41-23 at the half.
After going 4-of-7 from long range in the second quarter, the Kohawks came out and matched that in the third while BVU was just 5-for-11 overall and trailed 58-37 heading to the fourth.
The Beavers heated up in the final quarter, but in the end it was just too much to overcome. They were able to shave the margin down to 14 with over 3:30 still to play but scored just two points after that.
Caydee Kirkham led all scorers with 18 points to lead three players in double figures for the Kohawks (20-6) who will advance to play at top-seed Wartburg College in the championship on Saturday.
Buena Vista closes out its remarkable season at 17-10 overall. The game also marked the final one in the careers of: McKenna Cone, Danika Demers, Madalyn Hilgendorf, Jenna Hallock, Hayley Humphrey, Emily Nothwehr, and Annie Johnson.
