STORM LAKE, Iowa (Feb. 21, 2026) - The Buena Vista men's basketball team concluded its regular season on Saturday by holding off Loras College 65-62 on Senior Day in what was the final home game for the team this season.
It was a defensive battle for both sides throughout the contest. Both teams were held under 35 percent shooting in the opening half and went into the locker room deadlocked at 26-26. The two sides heated a touch over the final 20 minutes, but neither side was able to build any sort of lead. BVU led by as many as seven in the first half and six in the second.
The Duhawks led 39-38 after a pair of made free-throws six minutes into the second half before BVU came right back and got the lead back at 40-39 following a layup from senior Jackson Jones. Moments later junior Carter Sievers buried a long range bucket that gave the Beavers their largest lead of the half at 47-41. Loras got as close as one point on several occasions over the final 10 minutes of the half, but BVU never relinquished the lead.
Buena Vista, which ranks third in DIII in free-throw percentage this season, made its final seven attempts over the final 2:30, which helped secure the win. Loras made a three-point shot in the closing seconds that brough the Duhawks with 63-61 with under three seconds to go, but Jayden Brink sealed the win and snapped a 16-game losing streak in the series, by sinking the final two free-throws.
