LAST TIME OUT:

Buena Vista was again hindered by its rush defense as Central College totaled 293 yards and five touchdowns on the ground while chalking up 535 yards of total offense. BVU passed for a season-high 268 yards and two scores but was held to only 65 yards rushing. The Beavers were also intercepted twice and turned the ball over on downs once. The Beavers scored first when junior tight end Carson Lullmann hauled in his first career touchdown catch. The game was tied at 14 midway through the second quarter following quarterback Brett Garcia's five-yard TD run. The Dutch, however,  scored touchdowns on eight of its 10 drives in the game with only three of them resulting in at least 10  plays. Garcia tossed for a career-high 268 yards and finished 26-of-39 passing. Senior Adriel Fussell carried the ball 21 times for only 60 yards. Garcia's touchdown run was the only other rushing attempt for the Beavers in the game.

The Spartans were looking to pull the upset at home when they hosted No. 11 Wartburg College, but despite a strong start, the team couldn't slow down the Knights in the second half except for a safety with under 3:00 to play in the game. Junior quarterback Joey Rhomberg passed for 251 yards without a touchdown and was intercepted twice and sacked three times. He also added 43 yards on the ground with nine carries. Cameron Brown hauled in a team-leading nine catches for 115 yards, including the team's only TD in the game. His 55-yard catch on the team's first offensive play gave the Spartans a 6-0 lead.

SCOUTING THE  SPARTANS: The team has been strong on both sides of the ball during conference play this season. Offensively, it has done alot of the damage through the air by ranking second at 295.3 yards passing per game. Rhomberg leads the league at  281.5 yards passing with 15 touchdowns. No other quarterback has more than eight passing touchdowns through the first four conference games. On the flip side, Dubuque leads the A-R-C in pass defense at 190.5 yards contest. Opponents have only passed for five touchdowns the last four weeks while the Spartans have intercepted six pass attempts. The unit continues to put the pressure on the backfield with 16 sacks

Brown leads all A-R-C receivers to this point in the year with 98.3 yards per game during league play. His 25 receptions in those games are second as does his six touchdowns. His 36 points scored is tied for third-highest.

On the ground, the Spartans rushed for a season-high 267 during a win over Simpson College two weeks ago, but has been held under 100 yards in three games overall this season. The team has rushed for only five scores on the year.

ABOUT BUENA VISTA: BVU is looking to snap its five-game conference losing streak dating back to last season. Since that win, the Beavers have allowed over 40 points to each of its last five league opponents.

Both players are averaging nearly 4.0 yards per carry and have combined for five of the team's eight rushing scores. Garcia has the final three rushing TD's.

The Beavers continue to be plagued by its inability to slow down the opponent's run game. The team has allowed at least 260 yards on the ground in each of its first four A-R-C games this season which has led to 18 rushing touchdowns over that span. Opponents are averaging only 18 pass attempts per game with BVU holding them to 200.0 yards per game which ranks second in the conference.
